FAQ'S & T&C'S

What should i wear?
ADULTS: Bring a range of different tops with varying neck lines that you think are suitable for you and your casting type. If you're not sure of your casting type think about five adjectives that would describe you as a person and use those to select character types that you could portray. You can also ask friends and teachers what they think your casting type is. You will also need a shot that shows your own personality so have a good think about the range of clothing you'd like to wear to keep your headshots varied. Wearing 5 tops of the same style in different colours isn't varied so you'll need to change it up between styles. Eg. Strappy tops, long sleeve, V necks, scoop necks, off the shoulder, shirts, jumpers, cardigans, jackets etc. There's nothing wrong with bringing duplicate styles in different colours, just make sure you have a good range to choose from overall. You can also bring a selection of black/grey/denim but also try experimenting with colours to bring out your eyes and compliment the colour of your hair. White tops can be quite overpowering on camera and can wash you out if you have pale skin but don't rule it out completely if there's a top that you love! Cream is always a good alternative to white or try pairing a white top with a jacket. Bring everything and we can decide. Think about different jackets (leather/denim etc) that can look quite good as well and definitely have something that shows off your collarbones. Ladies - be sure to wear a strapless tan bra if you have one to make changes simple and to avoid any unwanted lines. If you don't own one have a think about another bra/under top that will hide well with your looks. We can go through the different choices when you arrive to your session and I can help choose the best looks for you. We can usually fit in around 5-7 top changes in a three hour session and 3-4 in a 90 min session. Also, don't forget to iron/steam out any creases! :) If you need some ideas you can always take a look at what past clients have worn in my portfolio. If your wardrobe is looking a little tired or unvaried you can always go shopping a few days before your session, leave the tags in, wear them and return the items after. ;) (Please check the returns policy before doing this! I have done this many times for my own headshots.) Please also feel free to bring an outfit to do a full length photo as well if your session time allows it. (Classic & Portfolio).

CHILDREN: Agents always ask for one look that makes your child look as young as possible. To achieve this I highly recommend dungaree's over a t-shirt and hair in bunches or plaits. For boys this can mean a casual plain t-shirt. The above information relating to adults can also translate when preparing your child's outfits but as we might not know your child's casting yet, it's good to be prepared with everything. I like to cover the following looks; Young (Girls: T-Shirt & Dungarees or flowery top. Boys: Striped/Checked T Shirt), Period Drama (Girls: Off-White/Cream laced/patterned blouse. Boys: Plain or Smart-Cas Shirt), Sassy/Grown-Up (Both: 1x Denim, Leather, Cardigan to throw over a plain coloured top), Soap Opera (Both: Plain hoody.) Other items to bring: Complimentary headband, plain t-shirt to compliment hair and eye colour. NO BIG LOGOS. Please also feel free to bring an outfit to do a full length photo as well if your session time allows it. (Classic & Portfolio).
Hair & make-up?
ADULTS: Keep make-up as minimal as possible. Try to avoid lipstick and thick liquid eye-liner as it can make your eyes appear smaller. If you have any spots just cover them up with concealer and I will edit them out after. Try to avoid caking on foundation. It's best to turn up with a little make-up on first that you can add to. I would advise against liquid foundation/highlighter unless you are an absolute pro at applying it and that's the look you're going for. What I use personally is a powdered foundation such as The Body Shop 'Face Base.' This can be applied on thick with a damp sponge or it can be used to brush over the face for a light natural dusting (my favourite.) Have a play a few days before your session so you can perfect the look you want so it looks most like you. I can advise whether you need more mascara, etc. Bring all of your daily make-up with you so you can do this. Guys can do this too if they wish! Keep eyebrows well groomed. If you have one, an eyebrow brush is an amazing tool to use and bring with you. After washing your face in the morning let your eyebrows dry in the shape you desire and this will help them keep in place for the day. I can photo shop any strays so don't worry about applying gel or hairspray to your eyebrows. As for hair, again you want to go natural but keep it similar to how you would wear it to an audition and bring grips and hair bands so you can change up the style too. Don't forget to bring a hair brush and any products you might need. Guys are welcome to shave mid session in the bathrooms at the local pub or public toilets.

CHILDREN: Keep hair natural and off the face. Bring bobby pins & hair bands to change up hair-styles. Under 16's don't need to wear any make-up unless you think it may help any shiny skin etc. I will have translucent powder to hand if needed.
how should i prepare in the time leading up to the shoot?
For the week running up to the shoot make sure you are getting the right amount of sleep and don't drink heavily! Especially don't turn up hungover. You won't be pleased with how you look on camera. It has happened. Stay hydrated all week if possible! Keep eyebrows well groomed and don't try any new face treatments that your skin isn't used to too close to the day. Avoid fake tan and if you are getting a hair cut, have it done the week before rather than the week of the shoot so it has time to settle. If you have any facial piercings please take them out for your session unless you would prefer to keep them in. Keep your face moisturised running up to the shoot and use a clear lip balm every day and on the day to avoid dry lips. Bring your lip balm with you! :)
what if i am running early or late?
Depending on your time slot I may be with another client or have another client after you so please aim to be on time. If you are late this will eat into your session time. If you are early you are welcome to find a nearby cafe or pub to wait in (if open). Just drop me a text to let me know you have arrived: 07767 753473.
what happens if THERE IS BAD WEATHER?
The Guildford headshot location is set outdoors but it is sheltered from the rain. It might get breezy at times so bring a bottle of hairspray and a hair brush or comb just in case. This location works best on a cloudy or sunny day. If heavy rain, wind and storms are forecast then please be prepared to reschedule or we can re-locate to the studio that day instead. Please make sure to give me your mobile number in case we have to make a last minute change.
how much are extra re-touches?
Additional images can be purchased for £20 each. Discounts are available for larger orders. I am unable to release un-edited files.
how will payment work?
  • A non refundable deposit of £50.00 is required at the time of booking to secure the session and the balance will be due on the day. If the deposit is not paid within 7 days of booking the slot will be re-opened for other clients.
  • If you decide to re-schedule your booking for another date or time, your deposit will be held and transferred to the new date. (Up to 1 weeks notice required or the deposit will be lost and must be paid again. Late cancellation fee waivered during Coronavirus Pandemic.)
  • If I decide to cancel your session for any reason then your deposit will be returned in full.
what does the session fee cover?
The fee covers your physical photo shoot and the number of included digital edited images stated in the package you have chosen. Additional edited images can be purchased for £20 each. Discounts are available for larger orders. I am unable to release un-edited files I'm afraid as they don't reflect a true representation of my work. All images included in your package, or additional purchased images will be edited and provided in high-res without a watermark.
what happens after the session?
Within 24 hours of the session and receipt of the balance, I will eliminate any shots of closed eyes and upload all of the good proofs to an online gallery which is password protected. There you will be able to view all of the unedited images. The images are numbered and you can email me back with your image choices or send me your final list via the gallery. Image RAWS will be kept for 3 years and your gallery proofs will stay live for 2 months after your final images have been delivered. This can be uploaded again if you need to purchase any more. You will receive a notification before the RAW files are deleted in case you wish to purchase any remaining images. Your images may also be used on my website or social media pages as advertising to help spread the word. Please let me know if you'd prefer your images to be kept between us. Once you have your images you are free to use them for your own purposes. I am on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter so you are welcome to tag me in your uploads as credit is very much appreciated. Please contact me for guidance and terms if a magazine or newspaper approaches you to use the images.
what is your turnaround time?
It can usually take up to 2 weeks to get your edited images back to you. If you need them urgently there is an optional priority edit fee of £15 per image to speed up turnaround time to 48 hours. If you have booked the 'Express Headshots' package the included image will be edited within 48 hours of selection, as well as a second image if purchased. Additional purchased images will take the usual turnaround time of up to 2 weeks.
how much editing do you do?
I take a lot of care in the editing process from the perfect crop right to the tiniest blemish on your skin. Spots will be removed along with stray hairs, dry patches of skin, and much more. If there is anything extra you'd like me to do just let me know and I can do it, (unless of course it's changing the colour of your eyes or something like that - keep it natural haha!)
can i edit my own headshots?
As I pride myself on my branding and know exactly how a headshot should look then I do not allow any further editing on headshots once delivered to the client. This includes Instagram filters... ;) I would also recommend to refrain from sharing any unedited headshots in a professional context until you have received your final re-touched images.
